The Behind the Story Blog: NATJA Award Winners

This morning, the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) announced the winners of its annual travel writing competition. Proud to have nabbed three awards.

Bravery on a Bike in Afghanistan,” a profile on the country’s first women’s bike racing team, was my breakout story for ESPN. It won Gold in the category of Personality & Profiles.

Stand Up and Fish,” a story about fly fishing in Alaska’s remote Kenai Peninsula on a stand-up paddleboard features fellow Coloradan Ken Hoeve, and was my inaugural story for Alaska Magazine. It won Silver in the category of Sports & Recreation.

Surf’s Up,” a narrative and video combination about running rivers on a stand-up paddleboard also features Ken Hoeve, and was my first major multimedia story. It won Bronze in the category of Sports & Recreation–Web.

Thanks for reading,
JM
